With the Saint’s day in the air, it’s perhaps time to focus our attention to one of the most important rooms in the home, the bedroom. Feng shui your bedroom right and reap the rewards of heightened romance and restful rejuvenation.

If this all sounds a little daunting, don’t worry. Good feng shui for your bedroom can be achieved really quite easily.

Set the mood this Valentine’s day with The New Mireille rose bed linen from the Linen works is the ultimate most luxurious linen duvet cover I have ever tried. This sumptuous, thick pale pink bed cover will transport you to a romantic French Provence dream.

It’s all about the bed

Much about good bedroom feng shui is dependent on just one piece of furniture. Your bed, of course. It is important that you design your room as best you can, beginning with your bed, so it is placed in the optimum feng shui position.

Feng shui bed power position bedroomKnown as the commanding position, this is the area of the room furthest away from the door, usually at a diagonal angle. Typically, this will place the bed facing the door, but not directly in line with it. A bed placed in the optimum feng shui ensures you are in control of the room’s energy, creating a safe, secure, calming ambience.

In addition to positioning, good feng shui dictates that your bed should stand at a height level with your hip, supported by a substantial headboard, with no under-bed storage.

Reflect your relationship

Depending on your sleeping habits, we spend over a third of our life resting in our bedrooms, sleeping, relaxing, and spending romantic time with our loved ones. The bedroom symbolises our romantic relationships. As such, symmetry is essential for promoting a balanced, harmonious partnership between equals.

A good way to achieve this is to mirror bedside designs, including tables and lighting. Futons and headboards should stretch the full width of the bed, or be placed centrally to create symmetry.

Avoid too many scatter cushions as well. These can have an adverse effect, blocking any romantic, passionate energy in the room. Rather, invest in good quality pillows that feel weightless, like a cloud. Two single duvet covers ensure optimum temperatures and undisturbed sleep, while a memory foam mattress is a necessity.

For little creature comforts, simply personalise your bedroom corner to suit your bedtime routine. Bottled water, books, and candles can create an air of calm, optimising your bedroom’s instinctive energy. Don’t forget those romantic breakfasts in bed which will make this special space fielded with joy!

B is for Blue Bedroom

It may well be tempting to channel your favourite colours into your bedroom. That being said, remember that the primary purpose of the bedroom is to provide a zen-like escape, in which you can rest without distraction.

The best shades for your bedroom décor are neutral with hints of blues and greys. Blue is a calm and soothing colour, which naturally reduces tensions, brings down blood pressure, slows the heart rate, and reduces feeling of stress and anxiety. Ergo, what better colour for your bedroom?

Blue may well be a brave move for some people. However, it is possible to benefit from a touch of blue, whether in textiles or lighting, rather than painting an entire wall area block blue.

With bedroom design finalised, just don’t forget the blackout blinds to minimise light-induced sleep disruption. Wooden blinds can also absorb sounds, and blend beautifully with neutral colour schemes.
